At a gathering on Wednesday 21st September 2011, over one hundred of the St Andrew's community witnessed the official opening ceremony of the new extension.
Those present included Lady Godiva (Pru Poretta MBE), representatives of the supporting churches, benefactors, Friends of St Andrew's, former Governors and their families, the relatives of residents and the current Trustees and care staff. Included in the number was Mrs Doreen Bayliss, who is the widow of the original signatory to the Trust Deed of 1950.
During the ceremony, Mrs Lesley Eaton, the care manager, received the keys to the development from the architects, who were represented by Mr Dhiran Vagdia, whilst our VIP guest Mr David Moorcroft officially opened the new extension and unveiled a commemorative plaque
The date of the ceremony coincided to the day, six years ago, when Rod Drew MBE launched the appeal to redevelop and build a new extension to St Andrew's House to meet the recommended care standards introduced in2002.
David Moorcroft was full of praise for the bold decisions by the trustees to go ahead with the redevelopment plan.
David said "As we all get older the need for care is greater and it is wonderful that organisations like this exist to help us and show great community spirit"
